We want to change the way we recruit
Improve Business is a Copenhagen startup, four years young, on a mission to change the way companies and talent find each other. We believe hiring should be about matching people to roles on what they can actually do and what drives them, not just what fits on a CV.
Through Improve Business Academy, we work every day with skilled academics who are between jobs, helping them turn their expertise into real, hands-on experience with local companies. We've seen first-hand how much talent sits untapped in the pool of jobseekers, and we want to put our own belief into practice: so for this role, we're specifically looking for a registered jobseeker ready to build something that matters.
And we mean it when we say we hire differently: we weigh your motivation far more heavily than your CV. A great CV is welcome, but what we really want to understand is why you want this, how you think, and what you'd bring to the team.
Because that's exactly what this is. We're building a new recruitment-matching platform, and you'll help shape its foundation from the earliest days. We're small, ambitious, and moving fast, which means the work you do here is visible, it ships, and it counts. You won't be maintenance number seven on a legacy system; you'll be right at the core, based in our office on Gothersgade in the heart of Copenhagen.
One important note: it is important for us to hire unemployed for this position, so you'll need to be a registered jobseeker. If that's not you, this particular role won't be the right fit - but do keep an eye on us, as we're growing.
The role
We're looking for a Cloud Engineer to help develop and maintain our recruitment-matching platform, which runs entirely on Microsoft Azure for now. You'll work hands-on with Azure Container Apps, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Service Bus, Azure Container Registry, Key Vault, and Static Web Apps, all provisioned through infrastructure as code using Bicep.
You'll own the reliability of our CI/CD pipelines and quality gates, which enforce linting, static typing, security scanning, and a strict test coverage floor. Practical experience with automated delivery and release safety in containerized environments is essential, and Docker is required.
Observability is a core part of this role. Our backend already ships structured JSON logging with request correlation IDs and separate liveness and readiness probes, and we'll look to you to extend this foundation with OpenTelemetry instrumentation. You should be proficient with Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics to build the dashboards and alerts that keep us ahead of problems.
To collaborate effectively with the team, you'll need enough backend fluency to discuss and touch the codebase: Python, FastAPI, SQL, Pydantic, and Alembic-managed database migrations on PostgreSQL with pgvector for vector search. Our matching engine relies on an asynchronous scoring worker that consumes a Service Bus queue and computes embeddings with the machine learning model, so understanding the operational realities of ML workloads in production will be part of your daily conversations.
Nice to have
Experience with Kubernetes, or with application security practices such as session management, multi-tenancy isolation, and OAuth integrations, is a strong plus.
Above all, we value engineers who treat reliability, observability, and cost awareness as product features rather than afterthoughts.
The details
Contract: 6-month position to start, with the genuine possibility of a permanent role.
Location: On-site at our office on Gothersgade, Copenhagen.
Requirement: You'll need to be based in or near Copenhagen.
Profile: We welcome international candidates - our working language is English
We'll be holding interviews in weeks 32 and 33, and we hope you can start on 1 September.
Sound like you?
If you read the tech stack above and felt at home, we'd love to hear from you. We'd love to see your CV, but don't spend time polishing it. Instead, tell us what motivates you, why this role speaks to you, and about a project you're genuinely proud of. We care far more about your motivation and how you think than about a perfect CV.
Send your application to our CEO, Anne Hørsted, at anne@improvebusiness.dk. Deadline is August 4.
Please note that we're on summer holiday from 10–27 July. After that, you're also welcome to call us with any questions on +45 30 14 16 14 and ask for our Data Scientist, Ramon Souza.
