Department Manager for Risk Management and Planning in DSB’s Future Rolling Stock Acquisitions

Are you motivated by leading and supporting a team of skilled specialists in risk management and planning, ensuring they thrive and deliver good results in some of Denmark’s largest projects and programs?

Do you have the qualifications to set a clear direction for governance and the integration of risk management and planning? If so, you might be our new department manager.

About the Role DSB is making significant investments in the future of rail transport, including the acquisition of environmentally friendly electric trainsets, efficient locomotives, and modern workshops. On top of that, we are transforming the S-Bane into a fully automated system.

These programs are complex and challenging but also highly rewarding! For more than 10 years, we have worked to establish the competencies and governance structures needed to execute these large-scale programs that will define the future of rail transport in Denmark.

We are now looking for a leader for our Risk Management and Planning department, which plays a key role in ensuring governance and structure in our projects and programs.

We operate in a matrix structure, where professional skills and knowledge are centralized in departments, while the daily work takes place in individual procurement and infrastructure programs.

Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that your team thrives and has the necessary professional knowledge to perform effectively in their roles, while also ensuring effective integration between risk management and planning.

You will report to the Head of our PMO and become part of the PMO leadership team, with ample opportunities for collaboration and sparring with other department managers working across or within our Portfolio.

Your Key Responsibilities In addition to your role as functional manager, you will also act as Planning Lead for the IC5 programme, ensuring robust planning processes and governance. You will also coordinate across risk management and planning to ensure a unified direction for these disciplines.

  • Lead and develop a team of specialists, encouraging collaboration between risk and planning disciplines.
  • Strategically plan resources, address shortages, and ensure optimal utilization across the portfolio.
  • Support projects and team members with governance, processes, templates, strategies, and tools to ensure efficient and reliable project execution.
  • Establish an environment for sparring, lessons learned, and professional development within your team.
  • Engage in constructive and proactive dialogue regarding resource allocation, performance, and development.
Is This You? You may come from a similar role in a PMO or as a risk management or planning lead, and you are ready to take on a key leadership role in one of Denmark’s largest procurement programs.

You are motivated by creating a professional community, encouraging psychological safety, and balancing leadership with professional responsibilities.

You thrive in an environment with a broad range of stakeholders and enjoy using your abilities to improve processes, systems, and structures.

Your Skills and Experience

  • +10 years of experience as a PMO lead, risk manager, or planning lead in large-scale projects or programs, preferably with experience in PMI and MSP®.
  • Experience with professional or personnel leadership, ideally in a matrix organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of planning and risk management methodologies, including integrating risk into planning processes.
  • A relevant educational background, such as a master’s degree in engineering or business.
  • Skilled in communication and collaboration across roles and disciplines.
