Engineer for developing hardware and software for advanced robotic systems

SDU Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), currently has an open position as engineer in various areas within hardware and software for robotic systems. We aim for the starting date 01.03.2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is located on SDU Campus in Odense and the work is expected to be primarily onsite, and the employment period is for 3 years.

Profile and requirements

We are looking for a candidate to support our research activities within the areas of medical and surgical robotics, industrial (dis)assembly and (re)manufacturing, and design of mechanical components. The candidate will work on and support different projects in SDU Robotics. The tasks and focus areas may change over time. 

The position requires documented education as engineer. The candidate is expected to have most of the following qualifications:

  • Mechanical (CAD, modelling, kinematics, dynamics, control and manufacturing)

  • Robotics and embedded systems

  • Programming skills (particularly in C++ or Python)

  • Simulation

  • Experience with automation hardware and software.

  • Strong mathematics skills and practical knowledge in 3D modelling.

Preferably, the candidate has experience with: 

  • Design of mechanical structures

  • Simulation of mechanical systems (both kinematics and dynamics)

  • Experimental design and data analysis

The candidate is also expected to have the following qualifications: 

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Willingness to engage in application-oriented R&D, by closely interacting with company staff.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and innovatively.

  • Self-motivation to learn and a strong sense of responsibility.

Furthermore, the successful candidate has adequate communication skills in English speaking and writing. 

Research environment

SDU Robotics is involved in a variety of national and European projects and features a strong network of academic and industrial partners. We are a team of currently ca. 60 employees, specialized in robot solutions involving modelling, simulation and control of advanced robot technologies (systems and services) for industrial, medical and welfare applications. 

SDU Robotics is part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), and located at the main Campus in Odense, at the core of the Odense Robotics Cluster involving 120+ startups and established companies in robotics. 

The aim of the group is to solve challenging research problems derived from real-life challenges by implementing novel robot solutions. We participate in implementing the achieved results in real solutions with end users such as Universal Robots, LEGO, Danfoss and Novo Nordisk.
