The Danish Health Data Authority is looking for a Software or DevOps Engineer for the National Genome Center

Would you like to integrate European solutions that support the development of personalized medicine in Denmark and across Europe? We are looking for a new software or DevOps engineer to join our interdisciplinary team of ambitious and dedicated colleagues.

An organisation on the path to something new
The Danish Health Data Authority is facing major and exciting changes. As part of the Healthcare Reform, as of 1 January 2027 we will become a self-governing institution – Digital Health Denmark – a new nationwide organisation comprising the Danish Health Data Authority, sundhed.dk, MedCom, and national IT and data functions from the regions.

About the position
You will be employed at the National Genome Center, which is a section within the Department of Research and Genome Center at the Danish Health Data Authority.

Our mission is to collect data on the genomes of the Danish population within a secure national infrastructure, make analyses and data available to clinicians and researchers, and contribute to advancing new knowledge in personalized medicine both nationally and internationally. The goal is to position Denmark as one of the leading countries in this field, benefiting the treatment and prevention of serious and life-threatening diseases.

The Center works with HPC, cloud services, networks, servers, storage, applications, users, and cross-cutting processes in a Linux-based software environment. You will play a central role in ensuring that these national technical capabilities are seamlessly integrated into the broader European data and infrastructure landscape, thereby helping our mission have an impact across national borders.

Your day-to-day work
You will become part of the team working on the Genomic Data Infrastructure EU project, linking the European level federation efforts with our national platform, tools, storage and service portfolio. You will contribute to advancing our mission both internally and within the broader European network.

On a daily basis, you are expected to work closely with the small team contributing to the Center’s new infrastructure initiatives while ensuring alignment with broader European objectives. Tasks will include evaluating technologies to solve technical challenges, deploying and operating core services, automating recurring tasks, reviewing code written by others, and providing technical advice and support to other teams. You will be responsible for driving technical solutions from proof of concept to production.

You should expect to collaborate closely with our European partners and travel within Europe approximately 1–2 times per year in connection with project meetings and workshops. It will also be your responsibility to help ensuring that the local team can work efficiently without losing sight of overarching project goals.

Your education, experience, and personal qualifications
We expect that you hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, or that you have professional experience working as a software or DevOps engineer. Ideally, you have documented experience with technical collaboration projects involving multiple stakeholders and can communicate effectively across different levels of technical understanding.

In addition, you have experience with or an interest in learning about the following:

  • Infrastructure as Code using a declarative approach, e.g. Nix/NixOS
  • Building solutions to complex problems using simple, existing technologies
  • Git version control and working in multi-user repositories (merge/pull requests and code reviews)
  • CI/CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery)
  • It is an advantage if you have experience with, or knowledge of:
  • Strongly typed languages and functional programming
  • System administration with a focus on infrastructure
  • Virtualization technologies
  • Operating infrastructure on bare-metal servers
  • Life sciences and bioinformatics
  • International collaboration or EU-funded projects (e.g. Horizon Europe or Digital Europe)
The ideal candidate:

  • Is engaged and takes initiative to achieve goals
  • Can collaborate with others on large and complex projects
  • Thrives in teamwork, shares knowledge, and learns from others
  • Is able to see the big picture while maintaining focus on the team’s short-term deliverables
  • Is comfortable working across national cultures and professional backgrounds (researchers, developers, and decision-makers)
  • Takes a diplomatic approach and can balance priorities between technical developers and non-technical policy stakeholders
  • Is proficient in English at a professional level, both written and spoken. Basic Danish skills are required in order to effectively navigate the local organizational context
  • Stays up to date with the latest technological developments and enjoys the development process. If you are an open-source developer, we would welcome reviewing your public contributions
As you will be employed in an agency undergoing change, it is an advantage if you have experience working in a structured manner within a dynamic environment and can successfully drive change processes to completion. You should be able to focus on opportunities and solutions rather than challenges. Most importantly, you are collaborative and approachable in both internal relationships and in dialogue with external stakeholders, nationally and internationally.

What we offer
We offer an exciting position in a dynamic organization with a strong focus on patients, research, innovation, and high professional standards. Skills development is an integrated part of our organization, and if you see yourself in this role, you will be joining a groundbreaking journey in health innovation.

Our official working language is Danish, but several colleagues prefer to communicate in English.

Terms of Employment
You will be employed in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and relevant employee organisations. This is a full-time position.

For further information about the position, please contact Senior Adviser Troels Rasmussen at +45 23 82 62 84.
