Postdoctoral Researcher in Personalized Oncology and Clinical Data Science at Center for Surgical Science

Postdoctoral Researcher in Personalized Oncology and Clinical Data Science at Center for Surgical Science (CSS), Zealand University Hospital

Are you looking for an opportunity to bridge the gap between advanced data science and clinical impact? Center for Surgical Science (CSS) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our ambitious national research initiative focused on clinical data and registry-driven machine learning and personalized oncology.

About the Project

The Postdoc will be working on a project that has established a nationally scalable platform for personalized medicine, built on open standards (OMOP CDM), real-world data, and clinically meaningful prediction models. Having completed the initial build phase, we are now entering a translational stage. The project aims to deliver a fully operational pipeline that integrates registry data, prospective clinical data, digital pathology, imaging data from radiological investigations and OMICS in a common, scalable framework. The work is done in collaboration with Ass. Professor Jes Frellsen at Technical University of Denmark.

The Role

As our new Postdoc, your role will be to convert an already established infrastructure into its full translational delivery. The focus will be on full-scale OMICS integration and the end-to-end implementation of a clinically usable oncology pipeline. This includes integration of OMICS and histology data from approximately 3,000 patients, completion of the real-life data pipeline including ETL processes for prospective data generation, harmonization of digital pathology and molecular data with registry and clinical data in a scalable architecture, and final integration of these data streams into oncology-driven prediction models and decision-support workflows. You will work at the intersection of data engineering, bioinformatics, and clinical decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Multi-modal Data Integration: Leading the integration of OMICS and digital pathology data from approximately 3,000 patients with structured clinical and registry data.
  • ETL & Pipeline Development: Finalizing end-to-end real-life data pipelines, including ETL processes for prospective data generation and harmonization.
  • Predictive Modeling: Developing and validating oncology-driven prediction models and machine-learning-based decision-support workflows.
  • Standards & Interoperability: Working within the OMOP common data model and leveraging secure API-based interoperability frameworks to ensure scalable and compliant solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a PhD in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Medical Informatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
  • Expertise in AI/machine learning and its application to clinical datasets.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work across domains including clinicians, data scientists, and registry experts.
  • Have good communication skills and contribute to the team spirit of the unit
  • Have a strong personal drive and bring forth initiative and new ideas

What We Offer

  • An interesting role in an initiative that serves as a national template for standards-based personalized medicine in Denmark.
  • A dynamic research environment at the Center for Surgical Science, which leads OHDSI-Denmark.
  • Full funding for the position until December 31, 2027, with high probability of extension

Application must include

  • Motivation letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Diploma and documentation of education
  • Documentation of relevant research experience and/or publications
