Experienced Software Developer for Clinical Bioinformatics and Personalized Medicine, Aarhus University Hospital

Are you passionate about developing software that makes a real difference for patients — and would you like to contribute to the frontline of personalised medicine?

The Department of Molecular Medicine (MOMA) at Aarhus University Hospital is looking for an experienced software developer for a full-time permanent position, 37 hours per week, starting October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About the position

As personalised medicine continues to expand, we are looking for a software developer with a background in computer science or a related field. You will become part of a closely integrated team of software developers and bioinformaticians working on the development and operation of bioinformatics pipelines and IT solutions for clinical diagnostics and research in a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) laboratory.

The work is carried out in close collaboration with users, including clinical academics, biomedical laboratory scientists and medical doctors, and has direct relevance for patients with, for example, cancer or genetic diseases.

You will take part in interdisciplinary collaborations both within Aarhus University Hospital and with external partners from Aarhus University, the Danish National Genome Center and the other Danish regions. There may also be opportunities to take on project management responsibilities, depending on your interests and qualifications.

About the department

MOMA is an innovative department with a high level of activity in both clinical diagnostics and research. We perform several different sequencing strategies and are also involved in the development of LIMS systems, biobanks and clinical databases.

We have strong research and development environments within areas such as

  • Colorectal, bladder, kidney and prostate cancer
  • Targeted cancer treatment and microbiome analysis
  • Medical diseases
  • Genetic diagnostics
  • Advanced bioinformatics method development
We offer
  • an exciting position with opportunities for personal and professional development
  • a dynamic and interdisciplinary department in growth
  • dedicated colleagues with a high level of expertise
  • the opportunity to develop software and bioinformatics solutions with a high degree of independence
  • collaboration across hospital, university and national partners
Who are you?

We are looking for a motivated and skilled software developer who

  • holds a Master’s degree in computer science or a related field, with solid programming experience. A PhD is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • has strong skills in Python and preferably experience with several of the following:
    • bash scripting, SQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
    • behaviour Driven Development (BDD)
    • linux containers such as Docker or Podman, and DevOps
  • is comfortable working in Linux and Git-based environments and uses open-source tools
  • has an interest in bioinformatics. Prior specialist knowledge is not required, but curiosity and openness to interdisciplinary collaboration are essential.
  • enjoys working closely with users and colleagues from different professional backgrounds
  • can work independently while also contributing actively to a team
