Photonic R&D Engineer at Phanofi

The Mission

Phanofi is a DTU spin-out building the next generation of optical communication infrastructure. We design integrated photonic interconnect chips to reduce power consumption and increase speed for AI datacenters, quantum computing, and space applications. We are a diverse team of 10 looking for an engineer to help us build our product from the ground up.

The Role

Reporting directly to our CTO, you will design, model, and prototype custom chips. You will work within a structured onboarding program with a dedicated buddy to ensure you settle in quickly.

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Simulation: Modeling of photonic components (rings, modulators, polarization rotator combiner etc.) for high speed Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) for multiple foundry platforms.

• Testing & Analysis: characterize devices experimentally and analyze performance data.

• Manufacturing: Work closely with packaging houses to resolve Design for Manufacturing (DFM) issues.

• R&D: Keep up with industry trends and contribute to technical reports and publications.

What We Are Looking For

• Education: PhD in Photonics, Optical Communication, or Electrical Engineering.

• Experience: 2+ years in photonics R&D, specifically with PIC design, device modeling.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in simulation software (Lumerical, COMSOL) and Python.

• Soft Skills: Strong English communication, independent work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset.

• Bonus: Experience with RF design (ADS or HFSS).
