Post doc for in vitro research in influenza virus at Statens Serum Institut

Are you interested in functional research of influenza viruses? Are you skilled in virological laboratory methods? Then you might be our new co-worker at the National Influenza laboratory.

About the Department of Virology & Microbiological Preparedness
As our new colleague, you will be a part of the Department of Virology & Microbiological Preparedness (VMB), where we perform research, surveillance, and diagnostics of viral infections in both humans and animals.

The department is the national central laboratory for human and veterinary virology and comprises the National WHO Centre on influenza, covid-19, polio and measles/rubella.

The available position is within the national reference laboratory for influenza and respiratory syncytial virus. We are involved in research on e.g. host-virus interaction and zoonotic transmission of influenza virus from animals to humans, surveillance of respiratory viruses and preparedness in case of outbreaks.

About the position:
You will be involved in research connected to EU-funded research projects investigating the zoonotic potential of influenza virus from animals e.g. avian and swine influenza viruses.

Your primary task is to be responsible for research using functional in vitro studies in cell culture systems e.g. immortalized cell line, primary cells, air-liquid interface cell systems, organoids and embryonated eggs.

Required qualifications:

  • You are a biologist with a PhD degree in virology and in vitro methods.
  • You have practical experience working with virological laboratory methods:
    • Experience with virus cultivation in cell cultures.
    • Organoids, especially you need to have experience with brain organoids
  • You are highly experienced working with highly pathogenic avian influenza
  • You are highly experienced in working in BSL3
  • Experience with virus culturing in embryonated eggs.
  • Experience with air-liquid interface
  • Knowledge of molecular biology or virology (i.e. PCR, virus genome sequencing, Influenza).
  • Experience with Phylogenetic analysis and working with bioinformatic pipelines.
  • Good collaboration skills and experience with collaborations in international projects.
  • You thrive to work with tasks of great relevance for public and animal health in research projects.
Terms of employment:
The employment will be in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC-overenskomsten) and the Danish Ministry of Finance’s circular concerning the job structure for scientific staff working with research at sector research institutions (Stillingsstruktur for videnskabeligt personale med forskningsopgaver ved sektorforskningsinstitutioner).

The employment is temporary for a period of two years.
