Software Engineer - Web Interface & Python Backend for Machine Learning Simulator - DTU Wind

We seek a talented and engaged software engineer who is eager to contribute to a world‑leading research environment and support the development of the first version of a user‑friendly software tool that uses physics‑informed neural networks to perform power system dynamic simulations.

The Division for Power and Energy Systems at DTU Wind and Energy Systems conducts cutting‑edge research in sustainable, reliable, and cost‑efficient energy systems for the benefit of society. At DTU Wind and Energy Systems, you will be part of a creative and inspiring work environment with about 400 highly skilled and motivated colleagues.

This is an administrative/research-support position and is connected to the ERC Proof‑of‑Concept project “PINNSim: Power System Simulator based on Physics‑Informed Neural Networks”, a prestigious grant awarded by the European Research Council. The project aims to translate key outcomes from our ERC‑funded grant “VeriPhIED” into the first steps toward commercialization and real‑world application.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be part of a dynamic working environment with a friendly team atmosphere, where you will have the opportunity to grow and further develop your technical, professional, and personal skills.

We are looking for a software engineer with solid experience in developing web‑based interfaces connected to Python backends. In this role, you will play a key part in linking simulation algorithms with intuitive and user‑friendly web applications, helping to create state‑of‑the‑art simulation tools and enabling capabilities that are the first of their kind.

We are seeking self‑motivated and team‑oriented individuals who thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working with complex technical challenges.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Integrating Python-based simulation code with a modern web-based user interface
  • Designing and implementing robust data pipelines to support simulation workflows
  • Developing and maintaining scalable backend services
  • Designing and refining GUI components in close collaboration with the research team
  • Ensuring performance, reliability, and usability of the web application
  • Contributing to architecture decisions and continuous improvement of development processes

A strong candidate will have experience in four or more of the following areas:

  • Strong Python skills and experience building web interfaces with Python backends
  • Experience with web frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask, FastAPI, or similar)
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies (e.g., JavaScript, HTML, CSS)
  • Understanding of software architecture, APIs, and data integration
  • Familiarity with cloud deployment or containerization (Docker, CI/CD pipelines)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
