Student assistant to Human Rights, Africa department

You will be working in the Human Rights, Africa Department, supporting the Department Director, advisers, and project managers with a variety of project-related tasks. This role requires diligence, adaptability, and strong learning skills. You must have excellent communication abilities and be fluent in both French and English, spoken and written. Only candidates who can demonstrate fluency in French (minimum C1 level or native speakers) will be considered.

We are looking for someone flexible and motivated by handling a wide range of tasks simultaneously. You should enjoy working with languages, including translation and proofreading. A service-oriented mindset is essential, as you will assist colleagues at headquarters and in our local offices across Africa. Practical tasks such as printing, archiving, preparing visits and meetings, and providing IT support will also be part of your tasks.

You will contribute to projects across the department, with a particular focus on West Africa and Ethiopia. In West Africa we work in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Ivory Coast, Benin, and Ghana focusing on human rights and security. In Ethiopia, we collaborate with the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission and several donors to advance the promotion and protection of human rights. Our work involves partnerships with key state actors, ministries, national security forces, civil society organizations, and National Human Rights Institutions. Our goal is to support these actors in fulfilling their mandates effectively and in compliance with human rights standards.

MAIN TASKS STUDENT ASSISTANT
  • Assist department director, senior advisers, project managers, and local offices, (West Africa and Ethiopia), in daily project tasks
  • Work with translations and proof-reading French- English- French, both spoken and written
  • Consolidate annual and final reports for donors
  • Work with MEAL tools to highlight project results (DIHR’s monitoring tool)
  • Assist with planning and execution of visits and meetings
  • Assist with document filing and communication tasks, such updating website pages
  • Develop and maintain our systems for collaborating with national offices
  • Assist with ad hoc tasks
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in a university programme (sociology, political science, law or other related fields) with at least one year left of study
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written in both French and English is a specific requirement. Language skills will be tested during the job interview.
  • Danish is an advantage
  • Ability to work independently and thoroughly on various tasks as well as in cooperation with others
  • Well organised and structured
  • Experience with Excel will be considered an asset
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Salary is set in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Union of Commercial and Clerical Employees in Denmark.

The weekly work time is 15 hours, two days a week on average. Start date 2 February 2026.
