The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) is an intergovernmental organization that strives to advance marine ecosystem science and promote sustainable use of the seas. The Role
We are looking for a motivated Student Software Developer to help design and implement a secure CI/CD workflow using GitHub actions for running ICES Transparent Assessment Framework (TAF) R projects. The workflow will automate the execution of reproducible analyses and store resulting data products, figures, and reports in Azure Blob Storage.
This role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of cloud computing, software development, and reproducible scientific research. Your role will contribute directly to work that informs fisheries management and environmental monitoring worldwide.
This is a locally-recruited role, starting in August 2026.
Skills We're Looking For
We are looking for a student who is currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, with an interest in cloud-native development and scientific computing.
Desired skills:
Knowledge of C# / .NET
Experience writing or working with scripts (Bash, Python, R, etc.)
Advantage if you have experience or interest in:
R and reproducible research tools (e.g. R scripts, Markdown, Quarto)
Docker or container-based workflows

Terms of Appointment
This is a paid student role, and the working hours are 15 hours per week. This position will be established with an initial duration of 1 year. You should have at least a year left of your education still to complete. A Danish full-time work permit is also required. The preferred starting period for this position is August 2026.
