IT Project Manager for deployment of Banedanmark's Traffic Planning System (TPS)

Do you want to play a central role in the continued development and transformation of a critical IT system supporting railway operations?

Banedanmark is looking for a motivated and structured Project Manager to coordinate projects and activities around our railway traffic planning system, bringing together development, testing, infrastructure, migration and integration across a complex IT/OT landscape.

About the role

The traffic planning system is at the centre of the planning process. It brings together train timetables, infrastructure restrictions and other planning information and provides the basis for the execution of the railway plan. The system interfaces to a wide range of surrounding systems supporting planning, capacity management, traffic management, operations, data and reporting. This makes the system both technically complex and highly business-critical, with many interdependencies across the organization.

As Project Manager, you will have a key role in creating structure and ensuring progress across the many projects and activities required to develop and transform the system. You will coordinate several parallel workstreams, including software releases, establishment of test and production environments, system and data migration, and the transition from the current system to a new version of the supplier's product. A major part of your role will be a transformation program in which we will migrate our existing customizations and integrations to a new version of the product.

You will work across a matrix organization and coordinate specialists from different technical and operational areas. You will be responsible for creating momentum, maintaining overview, following up on commitments and ensuring that risks, dependencies and issues are addressed in time.

Your Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and following up on the projects and activities surrounding the traffic planning system.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and coordinating the transition to the new version of the system
  • Coordinating the development, testing and deployment of new releases and customizations
  • Managing dependencies and interfaces between the planning system and surrounding IT/OT systems
  • Identifying and following up on risks, issues, dependencies, decisions and actions across the different projects
  • Ensuring that activities are clearly planned, responsibilities are understood and agreed actions are followed through
  • Providing clear status reporting, highlighting progress, risks, decisions and areas requiring management attentionActing as the day-to-day coordination point towards the product supplier, while strategic, contractual and major commercial decisions remain with the Team Lead and contract management
A key part of the role is not simply to create plans, but to make sure that things happen. You will be expected to proactively identify what needs attention, challenge unclear or delayed activities, bring the right people together and maintain a clear overview of the overall delivery.

Your Profile

We are looking for a Project Manager who is organized, proactive and comfortable working in a complex environment with many stakeholders and dependencies.

You do not need to be a railway expert. We already have strong railway, operational and technical knowledge in the team. What we are looking for is someone who can complement this expertise by bringing strong project management, coordination and execution capabilities.

You bring the following:

  • Experience managing complex IT projects or programmes
  • Experience working in projects involving multiple IT systems, interfaces and stakeholders
  • A good understanding of IT systems, software development, system integration and deployment processes
  • The ability to understand technical discussions, identify dependencies and ask the right questions without necessarily being the technical specialist
  • Good communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical specialists, operational users and management
  • Experience with system migration, upgrades, integration projects or large-scale software releases is an advantage
You are a proactive person who enjoys bringing structure to complex situations andfollowing through. You consistently stay on top of tasks, follow up and keep things moving, while building good relationships with the people around you. You are comfortable working with both technical specialists and management, curious about how things fit together, and not afraid to ask questions and speak up when something requires attention.

What We Offer

You will join the OT Design team, part of Banedanmark’s IT development area. We are a small team of six working with the design and delivery of core systems supporting railway operations.

Our team combines IT expertise with strong railway knowledge. Most of us have a background in railway engineering, design or as users of the systems we support. We work closely with end users and colleagues across the wider IT/OT organisation, helping bridge the gap between railway operations and technology.

The work is varied and touches on software development and releases, infrastructure, system integration, migration, testing and operations. You will be part of a larger IT/OT environment of around 50–60 architects, designers, developers and other specialists, while working in a small, close-knit and sociable team where we value both professional collaboration and a good working atmosphere.

We offer

  • A varied role across IT, OT and railway operations
  • Professional development in a technically complex environment
  • Collaboration with experienced railway and IT professionals
  • A workplace that values diversity, inclusion and modern leadership
  • A good work–life balance and fitness facilities
  • Flexible working arrangements, including the possibility of working from home
  • A central Copenhagen location close to Dybbølsbro Station, with parking for cars and bicycles
