David Thulstrup is creating a new role for an Interior Designer or Stylist to join our studio in Copenhagen. From Copenhagen, we work on unique residential and hospitality projects around the world, each developed closely with our clients and shaped by David’s approach to architecture, interiors and materiality.
Architectural approach
Built on David’s experience across residential and hospitality design, we approach architecture and interiors as inseparable, developing them together from the outset.
Every project starts with understanding the client, the surroundings, its place in the world, the architecture and the materials.
To shape each project’s own identity, we work through a design process and clearly defined phases with high expectations at every stage and a commitment to delivering the work at the highest level for both our clients and the design.
We work with a holistic approach making the project grow from the connection between the land, the building and its context, with the interiors shaped as part of that same relationship.
The aim is to create the feeling that a project could only exist in that particular place in the world. A sense of place.
Studio work
David leads the creative direction on every project, and we work closely in teams, with David and with our clients, contributing with our best ideas and creativity.
The work requires commitment, ownership and follow-through. We care deeply about the outcome and expect everyone involved to contribute to delivering the strongest possible result.
Collaboration is essential to success and we value respect for everyone in our studio as well as the international teams we work with.
We expect you to develop a strong understanding of the David Thulstrup brand, David’s design language and aesthetic, and to bring the curiosity, judgement and conviction needed to work within it. This is key to developing interiors with David that are unique and have an identity of their own.
The role
Furniture, lighting, textiles, art, objects and materials all form part of the work. The role moves from research, sourcing and presentations through specification, procurement, installation and final styling.
You will also contribute to our material library and keep David and the team informed about existing collaborations, new manufacturers, materials and possibilities.
We are looking for someone with relevant experience in interior design, FF&E, styling or a closely related field, and a strong knowledge of the international design world.
A strong eye for design, a sensitivity to materiality and a good understanding of the FF&E process, from sourcing through installation, are important.
Responsibilities
· Developing interior concepts and FF&E specifications for the studio’s hospitality and residential projects
· Sourcing furniture through producers and dealers and at auction, as well as sourcing lighting and textiles
· Working with manufacturers, galleries, dealers, craftspeople and auction houses
· Preparing clear and considered design proposals for David and clients
· Leading and coordinating the interior design scope of projects
· Managing quotations, negotiations, orders, lead times and budgets
· Coordinating logistics, customs, inspections and claims
· Planning and overseeing installation, snagging and completion
· Completing the final styling before handover and photography
Apply
Please send your CV and portfolio with projects that clearly show your aesthetic judgement, your contribution and what you were responsible for.
We would rather see one or two strong cases than seven. We look carefully at every detail of an application and expect the same level of consideration from you.
Please read the role carefully before applying. We expect applicants to be able to prepare and submit a considered application independently and are therefore unable to answer individual questions about applications by phone or email.
